33 Recipe magnets!

Recipe Magnet Board

We all must eat to live.  Thats just a fact.  And while eating can be very enjoyable -- or extremely euphoric -- if you want good eats in the comfort of your own kitchen, it's going to take some planning.  I shiver when I think about those dreadful days when I had to decide what to eat for the whole week and make a grocery list.  Well, because first of all it would involve:

1)  Making a menu, (which could take days all by itself!)

2)  Next, going through all the cookbooks and writing down each ingredient.  Ug.  Makes me want to scream.

3)  Then knowing you must do this again next week or in two weeks...or however often you do your menu.

I am happy and relieved to say that I am not a slave to my menu anymore.  I make my menus for the WHOLE MONTH AND WRITE THE GROCERY LIST all in about 3 MINUTES!!!  No joke.  And a BIG thanks to 'a girl with a glue gun', the whole thing started with the adorable menu board she created, which is easy to make and she gives a great tutorial on, or if you don't want to spend time making it, you can even buy one from her!

Now, I had to EXPAND on her idea a little bit to make it work for me and my recipes.  So I am going to show you my idea for the recipe magnets

The recipe magnets contain:

1)  The name of the recipe
2)  Where to find the recipe
3)  ALL the ingredients
4) Optional:  Color coding so you know you are getting a variety of good food!

So you won't need ANYTHING to make you grocery list or menu for the week but this one little recipe magnet!

3 BASIC STEPS:

First:  Make a table on your computer that has 7 columns and 5 rows and each box should be about 1 1/4".

Second:  Grab all the recipes you know you love (you can add more later) and type the name of recipe and book and page number in one square.  Then on the square below that, type all the ingredients.  (This may seem like a lot of work to do, however, remember you only have to do this once, and then they are going to save you so much time in the future!)

THIRD:  Print, Cut, and Glue.  (Optional:  If you are color coding then make sure you put all of one type of food on the same table and get different colors of paper!)  For example:  chicken, beef, fish, soups & salads, vegetarian...ect.

I used the round black magnets that you can get at any craft store.  Glue the magnet to one side on several recipes, then glue the back on after the front is dry.

Back view:

And thats all!  The magnets are ready to use!  One whole side of my fridge is used for recipe magnets!  If I see something good I want to eat in the future, I just go pop it on my menu board!  SO SO EASY PEASY!  :D

I love my board, it has made making healthy meals for my family on a budget soooo much easier!
(P.S.  I made the month titles with a Cricut machine and decorated it with food stickers and also glued a magnet to the back.)
TIP:  Add date nights, freezer meals, leftovers, new meals, and whatever else you think of!

This works well for me because we have so many meals!  Stick around if you need a simpler menu planning method, because one is coming up!  Also did you see that camping magnet up there?!  Yes, I'm going camping this weekend (SO EXCITED!) and you can be sure to see a post about that soon too! Have fun with the menu boards and recipe magnets and comment away and please ask questions if you have them!

Need a simpler board? Check out this one!

  8. um.....my mind is blown and I am in love. this might have just saved me...i dunno all KINDS of stress! Not to ramble on but I am tactile, like really really, and so organizing any kind of meal plan just doesn't seem to compute and i have been trying to come up with something easy that doesn't suck up my whole day but still lets me be fun, creative and not bored with our food (i am a foody but my grandma, who i have to cook for too, can't taste so she doesn't care so much) ANYWAY all that to say I CAN DO THIS! TOTALLY AWESOME! bless your creative mind =D
